"What Only You Can Do"
Finding your special gift or talent. My son David and his girlfriend Christy are traveling the world right now focusing on a few projects involving the deaf communities around the globe. They have been to New Zeland, Austraila, and Japan...and then on to China, India, and others. Christy is deaf and Dave is fluent in American sign language, but each country, even the english speaking ones have different signs. So you can imagine, communicating has been quite challenging.
In Japan they met a young man who is an artist using Japanese calligraphy. He is confined to a wheel chair, has to communicate by eye movements and can only move one finger. His mother somhow straps a brush to him and he creates amazing posters. He offers a message of hope and "daj-jyou-bu" (no worries).
Here's a link to Dave and Christy's website Discovering Deaf Worlds, if your interested in more. You can also sign up for their newsletter and follow their interesting adventures as they work on linking the deaf communities from many countries.

This is a quote that Dave mentions he has written in Japanese when visiting the young man, "There must be something that only you can do."
This is a great quote to contemplate on. What is there about you that is unique? Another way to look at it is what combination of things you know, are good at or are passionate about that automatically creates something new or unique?
From this young man we learn the many different ways we conmmunicate.
From this young man we learn to appreciate what we have and to use what we have to enhance life.
